I just wrapped up my seminar for Adobe Developer Week 2008. While there was no cat killing bunny rabbit this time around, I did create a number of small exciting demo applications for Flash developers to start to get their hands dirty with Adobe AIR.
For those of you that did attend, I hope you enjoyed it and that you see that it takes very little effort to get started with AIR. And that AIR is very powerful. And can be very fun.
As soon as I have a link to the recording of the seminar I’ll supply it.
UPDATE
You can see the recording of the session here. Registration may be required. Sorry about the poor audio in the beginning…

I’m going to use this post as a venue for answering a lot of the questions I was asked regarding AIR. Read on for answers to some of the common questions I was asked.

Yesterday my trial of Flex Beta 3 expired, forcing me to finally uninstall/reinstall the Flex 3 final release. A lost my beautiful custom perspective and all those plug-ins I had grown to love… sigh.
The worst of it was that I the reinstall brought the full wrath of the evil “Waiting for Flash Player to connect to debugger” error of doom. I looked around online for anwers — none. The only documented solutions were to try to reinstall Flex and insure I was using a debug version of the player. I was on my own.
How did I solve this issue?! Well I didn’t… sort of.

André Michelle, Joa Ebert and Kai-Philipp Schöllmann have created the Adobe, Make Some Noise campaign with the ultimate goal of convincing Adobe to give some more love to sound manipulation in Actionscript. Definitely a noble cause, as it seems that with all the advances Actionscript 3 brought with it, sound functionality seems to have taken a step backwards .. or at least been left behind.

We restored the darkness of labs and learned a lot about Chyrp themes in the process. Please add a comment if anyone sees anything visually screwy anywhere. We had a few mysterious issues with installing multiple Chyrp instances in different subdomains on the same server, mostly related to file permissions, but they were easily resolved. Anyone interested in the details can check Stephen’s post in the Chyrp forum.

I will be a part of Adobe’s Developer Week 2008. The topic of choice? Adobe AIR and Flash CS3 once again. The session is on Tuesday, March 25th from 1PM - 2PM PST (that’s 4PM - 5PM EST).
Building for Adobe AIR in Flash CS3
You don’t need to know Flex to build Adobe AIR applications. The Adobe AIR Plugin for Flash CS3 affords those comfortable working in Flash the opportunity to create compelling content for the desktop. In this seminar, we’ll go through installing and building a simple application, including demonstrating some of the new powers bestowed to developers.
Sign up! It’s free, doesn’t require airfare or hotel accommodations and you get to hear my pretty voice.
